Introduction

This report concerns the development of the first international workshop held in Istanbul-Turkey from 27th to 31st January, hosted by the Turkish partner Özel Kadiköy Key Anadolu Lisesi. The partners from Poland, Italy, Romania and Greece were present.

The host partner gave support to visitor partners in the organization of accommodation, transportation and daily life arrangements. They also prepared a complete program of cultural activities, in order to let participants spot the city with its culture, history, tradition and archeology.

The workshop process aimed to analyze the whole planning and its further development according to the guidelines set in the outcomes of the project.

2- Welcome

The international team partners met for the first time at the host school “Özel Kadıköy KEY Anadolu Lisesi”. They were introduced with the support and guidance of Arzu Girginer, Principal of the secondary school and Hanna Kushnyrova, the Head ofthe English Department.

The partner delegations were welcomed through an official ceremony and also, breakfast meeting at school.

3- Activities

During the general meeting, all the requirements, tasks and activities of the project were discussed in details at project room.

3.1- Participants' Meetings

During the organizational meeting, partners were well focused on the discussions of the objectives of the project.

All the participants made their own presentations of their schools, cities and countries at conference hall. The host school ‘Özel Kadiköy KEY Anadolu Lisesi was also introduced to the participants

They worked on the topic of the project and discussed the next meeting.

In the general meeting, partners discussed the planning the next project meetings.

Next visits were postponed due to financial workload of some countries and public holidays (i.e Easter, Ramadan).

Rescheduled dates are as follows:

  • 4th May 2020 in Italy
  • 28th September 2020 in Poland
  • 7th December 2020 in Romania
  • 17th May 2020 in Greece

Those dates are later again postponed due to the world scale effects of Covid19 pandemic to the further dates that would be decided later.

Partners worked on the topic of the project and decided the subject of the film to be ‘immigration’ and the ‘migration’ issues.

Participants agreed to establish a web-site to include/upload all implementation related to works and reports into this web-site.

Each country should make a kind of contest and will present one ‘Logo’ work during Italian meeting. Coordinators will vote for the best one in Italy. Preferably it will be made in vector graphics.

The first meeting day was ended with an official welcoming dinner.

3.2- Students Activities

Turkish students had the opportunity to meet with participants and share their knowledge. A video about the school and the city was showed.

A visit to the host school facilities was done in order to show how classes are taught according to the Turkish Education System.

Students showed a power point presentation and focused on the Turkey’s major sightseeing and landscapes. Participants watched a video presentation of Turkey’s cultural activities.

The second activity consisted of the presentation of the ‘Robotic Coding Education’ and its implementation during the lecture.

IT skills–ICT competences regarding set of techniques used to provide coding education to students with the help of various card games and physical activities and the related web-sites code.org , algodigital.com, kodris.org, Abcya.com were introduced.

All other applications; U-Bot, Scratch Jr , Kodu Game Lab, 3D Design with Tinkercad , Cloud Board Robotics Studies, Scratch, Arduino , App Inventor , Fusion 360 were also introducted in the presentation meeting.

Another presentation was given to partners about the digital tools in English teaching and Turkish Education System in general. Participants were informed about the characteristics of English Teaching and learning environment with digital tools in English teaching in Özel Kadiköy KEY Anadolu Lisesi.

General objectives of the 9th-12th grades English curriculum in Turkey were also introduced. The curriculum has been designed in accordance with the descriptive and pedagogical principals of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)”.

The students study two foreign languages at school.

The school’s English language program prepares the students for the national exams and also for the international exams. During the lessons students have the opportunity to develop their speaking skills and they improve their knowledge at club time lessons and also with the teachers from different countries.

3.3- Social Activities

The first aim was to make the partners familiar with the Turkish Culture. The participants were informed about the history of Turkey. They could also visit the important parts of Istanbul as given below:

A visit to Old Town offered the opportunity to know better this ancient city İstanbul.

A visit to Hagia Sophia Museum located in Istanbul.

A visit to Sultanahmet Mosque which by built by Sedefkar Mehmet Aga between 1609-1616 years. It is called by Europeans as ‘Blue Mosque’.

A visit to Basilla Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) which is the largest of all ancient cisterns in Istanbul built in 6th century by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian.

A visit to Istanbul Archaeology Museum, the Ancient Orient Museum, and the Islamic Art Museum where there is a treasurers from the Assryian, Hittite, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilizations.

A visit to Spice Bazaar (Mısır Çarşısı) , which was built in 1664 as a part the Yeni Camii complex and is one of the most famous Bazaar in Istanbul.

A visit to Grand Bazaar ( Kapalı Çarşı), which is one of the most touristic places in Istanbul with more than four-thousands jewellery, antique, furnishing and spice shops in it.

A visit to Maideen Tower( Kız Kulesi which is considered as the cornerstone of the Bosphorus. The history of construction dates back to 341 BC.

A farewell dinner was held at the restaurant with the participation of the partner teams.

4- Conclusion

Finally, there was a ceremony of award of participation diplomas.

A questionnaire was distributed to the participants and their opinion about the workshop program were received with good results.

The enthusiastic participation of the partner countries enabled to achieve the goals. Participants connected very well and communicated the tasks, objectives and outcomes of the project.

Next meeting will be decided later between the partners due to the effects of Covid19 pandemic.
